CAAT - Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing
An academic, science-based center affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Provides a variety of resources for scientists, including grants, workshops and publications. Administers AltWeb (see Relevant Databases page).

NC3Rs (National Centre for Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research)
The NC3Rs funds high-quality 3Rs research, develops a range of 3Rs information resources and guidelines, and organizes workshops and symposia to disseminate and advance the 3Rs. The Centre was established in the United Kingdom in May 2004 and is licensed under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, which regulates scientific procedures which may cause pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm to "protected animals."

AltTox.org: Non-animal Methods for Toxicity Testing
AltTox.org is a website dedicated to advancing non-animal methods of toxicity testing through online discussion and information exchange. The site is being developed and supported through a collaboration of the Procter & Gamble Company and The Humane Society of the United States.

ECVAM (European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods) Database Service on Alternative Methods to Animal Experimentation (DB-ALM)
DB-ALM provides access to:

  • Method summary descriptions: Review documents based on extensive literature reviews
  • INVITTOX protocols: Step-by-step descriptions of method performance in laboratories.
  • Evaluation studies: Studies, conducted for the evaluation of method/assays/test systems, are described as summary records
  • Formal validation studies: Summary records on validation studies are provided together with related information
  • Compounds & test results: Descriptions of tests and their results carried out with methods/assays/test systems included in DB-ALM

Trans-NIH Xenopus Initiative Web Site
An excellent resource on Xenopus research and initiatives, developed to help keep the public aware of NIH's progress and plans regarding support of the genomic and genetic needs for Xenopus research. The site also provides links to community resources and to information about courses, meetings and publications.

Xenopus tropicalis resource
A group that is developing X. tropicalis as a model organism, led by Dr. Robert Grainger at UVA.

United Kingdom House of Lords
Select Committee on Animals in Scientific Procedures Report,

On July 24, 2002, a select committee of the British Parliament's House of Lords released its report on the use of animals in scientific procedures. The report was the result of a year of investigation, hearings, and consultations by the committee with a wide range of representatives from both the biomedical research and animal rights activist communities.

IVTIP (In Vitro Testing Industrial Platform)
Non-profit organization and informal forum of European companies with an active interest in in vitro methods to be used in regulatory/safety testing or in the compound discovery and development process. Supports the European Union by suggesting topics in the field of in vitro testing where more research is required and evaluating the results of the EU research projects, mainly from the industrial point of view.
